APRIL 2007 NEWSLETTER

Pro's Corner

It appears as if the 2007 Golf Season has finally arrived.  Beginning April 1, we are allowed to enter scores in the handicap computer.  Please remember that the computer stores your most recent 20 scores and counts the low 10 scores towards your handicap.  Both Men’s and Women’s League along, with many of our tournaments, require you to have an established handicap.  For those of you who have never established a handicap yet plan on participating in league or one of our handicap tournaments, it is important to begin entering scores ASAP.  It will take 7 – 10 eighteen hole rounds in order for the computer to establish a USGA Handicap.  If you should have any questions in regards to establishing a handicap please see me.  Remember that you will need to pay the $20 GHIN fee in the clubhouse to activate your handicap account.

Junior Golf sign up is underway!  New for 2007, our golf clinics will now be Monday – Friday instead of spread out over 5 – 6 weeks.  With all the activities that take place during June and July along with Year Round School we believe that the new format will be more accommodating for both juniors and parents.  The Junior Golf Program will be held June 4 – 8.  I would be happy to mail you a sign up form or you may visit indianolacountryclub.com for a printable copy.

Finally, all Junior Golfers must pick up new bag tags regardless of whether they have changed age divisions.  The junior tags will now have the regulations posted on the opposite side of the club logo.  Please have your junior golfer familiarize themselves with the current rules for his/her division.

Irrigation System Update

The Board of Directors and the Trustees have approved the project of replacing the irrigation system on the East "old" nine holes.  The financing is in place using the member loans and capital improvement fee for the $180,000 project with no additional borrowing needed.  The logistics for doing the project this spring did not work out so the project will be done this fall.  Look for construction to begin October 1st or very shortly after that.  Superintendent Joe Burke expects that the new system will result in improved course conditions on the east nine.

Junior Golfer Rules Change

The Board approved allowing junior golfers ages 14 - 17 years old to tee off on weekend before the current 11 am start time if they are accompanied by a regular adult member.  This is to allow more family play for families with older junior golfers.

Ladies Association "Administrative Professionals Day" Salad Luncheon

The Annual Salad Luncheon will be on Wednesday April 25th from 11:00 am - 1:30 pm in the clubhouse.  All are welcome so if you are in town come on out with your coworkers for lunch.  This is a Women's Association fundraiser.  Salad and desert donations are needed.  There are bowls for salads and pans for deserts in the ladies locker room. Please sign up on the sign up sheet when you take one.  Salads can be dropped off on Tuesday evening until 9:00 pm or after 7:00 am on Wednesday morning.  If you are available to help work at the luncheon please call Lynn Long at 961-3917 or 201-8713.

The Indianola High School girl's golf team will be practicing and playing meets at the club again this spring.  Many of the players are members.  Their have meets on Monday May 7th and Monday May 14th at 3:30 p.m. The first tee is typically closed for about 30 minutes for a match.
