APRIL 2008 INDIANOLA COUNTRY CLUB NEWSLETTER Course
Open A Note
From Joe about the Course and the New Irrigation System We’ve started grading the ditch in #1 fairway. Hopefully it will be seeded by the end of the first week of April and mature enough not to affect the way we play the hole by the time the East 9 reopens. Everything is dependent on the weather. Always check the 1st tee for information. For example, there may be days that we are cart path only on the East 9 (to avoid tracking mud everywhere from the irrigation trenches) and 90 degree on the West 9. If you have questions or comments, please call me or stop me on the course. You can always go to our web site, www.indianolacountryclub.com, and send me an e mail. Thanks for your patience, Joe Burke, 961 – 2790 Office, 249 – 8543 Cell Pro's Corner It appears as if the 2008 Golf Season has finally arrived. Beginning April 2nd, we are allowed to enter scores in the handicap computer. Please remember that the computer stores your most recent 20 scores and counts the low 10 scores towards your handicap. Both Men’s and Women’s League, along with many of our tournaments, require you to have an established handicap. For those of you who have never established a handicap yet plan on participating in league or one of our handicap tournaments, it is important to begin entering scores ASAP. It will take 7 – 10 eighteen hole rounds in order for the computer to establish a USGA Handicap. If you should have any questions in regards to establishing a handicap please see me. Remember that you will need to pay the $20 GHIN fee in the clubhouse to activate your handicap account. |

Junior Golf Junior Golf sign up is now underway. With the increased number of students and nearly perfect attendance last year we have chosen the same format as last year. Unfortunately, because of all the snow days, Junior Golf will begin on Tuesday, June 3rd and end on Tuesday, June 10th. I would be happy to mail you a sign up form or you may visit www.indianolacountryclub.com for a printable copy. Please remember that this program is also available to non members. If your son or daughter has a friend interested they are more than welcome to attend. Women’s Association News Annual Salad Luncheon All members are invited to attend the Annual Salad Luncheon on Wednesday, April 23rd from 11:00 – 1:30, hosted by the ICC Ladies Association. This event is held each year on Secretary’s Day and is a very nice opportunity for you and your co-workers to visit the clubhouse for a lunch. This lunch is sure to be a change of pace from your normal routine! Also, this event is in need of salad and desert donations from the club membership. Sign-up sheets and salad bowls are available in the women’s locker room located on the lower level. Please consider having lunch with us at the club on this day. Tickets are $8.00 and will be sold in advance by calling Laura Manning at 238-5792 or emailing iacondor@uswest.net. You may also contact Laura with questions, to volunteer, or donate. We are very much looking forward to another successful event this year. LADIES
LEAGUE League
will start on June 4th. I'm hoping to have enough ladies to run an A,B
and Best Ball League. We will also do some fun events the first three
weeks prior to league starting. If you have any questions, feel free to
contact me. Tuesday Night League Men's Tuesday Night League will start on May 13th. Look for the sign-up sheet in the clubhouse. High School Golf The Indianola High School girl's golf team will be practicing and playing meets at the club again this spring. Many of the players are members. They have meets on Monday April 7th, Friday April 18th and Monday April 28th at 3:30 p.m. on the east nine. The first tee is typically closed for about 30 minutes for a match. Please support the team in their efforts, and plan your play to avoid conflicts. Lunch at the Club Don't forget that lunch is available at the club Thursday, Friday, and Saturday from 11AM-2PM. Feel free to bring your friends or co-workers. It is one of the best deals in town. 2008 Club Calendar The 2008 club calendars are complete. Pick yours up in the clubhouse or check it out on our website at www.IndianolaCountryClub.com. I would like to highlight a few additions and changes of note. There have been several additions and revisions in the tournament schedule. There will be a Member-Guest tournament on Saturday June 28th. This event will be your chance to showcase your course to a nonmember. It will be a 2-Person Net Best Ball and is open to both men and women. The Husband and Wife Tournament will be expanded to allow nonmember couples to play. The low member team will still be recognized and the Husband and Wife Club Champions. The Labor Day Tournament has been changed to a 4-person best shot and will still have separate men’s and women’s tournaments. The Labor Day Calcutta Auction has been moved to Friday evening and will be followed by a dance. A season ending 4-Person Best Shot Chili Open has been added to the schedule on Sunday October 26th. Play on Tuesdays this year will follow the regular links course layout except during Men’s League. During Men’s League after 4 pm the course will play east/west with players teeing off on both nines. Players starting their rounds earlier in the day should be aware that this will occur and plan accordingly.
