Championship shooting an 84. Kyle Matzen successfully defended his Men’s
Club Championship shooting 5 under par for 45 holes including a 6 under
par 66 on Sunday. Gene Capps won the Men’s Senior Championship and Bill
Gilson won the Men’s Super Senior Championship.
Tournaments this month include the Sole Survivor on Sunday August 3rd.
This shootout is a fun event to watch. The Husband & Wife Club
Championship on Sunday August 17th (look for the sign-up sheet in the
clubhouse). One of the most popular events of the year is the Labor Day
Tournament held on Sunday August 31st and Monday September 1st. A hog
roast (6 pm) and the Calcutta Auction (7 pm) will be held on Saturday
August 30th. A current handicap is needed for this tournament so be sure
to post all your scores.
Family Golf Evening
There will be a Family Golf Evening on Sunday August 10th at 4:30 pm. The
cost will be only $5 per family and golf activities with prizes will be
available for families with kids of all ages and skill levels. The plans
include:
* Child care available for non-golfing children
* Putting and chipping contests for the youngest golfers.
* Others play up to nine holes as a family with the number of holes
determined by interest level.
* $1 hotdogs and $2 hamburgers
Come on out and play along with your kids. Advanced sign-up is required
and this first event will be limited to about 15 families ( 60 people
assuming 2 kids per family) to ensure a good experience for all.
This event was planned to help families with younger children get more
involved in the club. Having events like this will also make our club more
attractive to new members. Thanks to the Crains, Saylers and Staudachers
for planning and hosting this event. Family evenings like this could be
held for families once or twice a month like 2-Balls are held for couples
if the interest is there. If you would be willing to host a family evening
let someone on the board know.
Wednesday Rule Change
In order to allow the course to be open for additional play, particularly
for juniors, and to increase revenue during non busy times the board has
approved the following rule change effective after August 1, 2003 for golf
on Wednesdays:
"From April 1st until September 30th only women may tee off after 12 noon
on Wednesdays. Men and juniors who tee off before 12 noon may finish that
9 hole round. The clubhouse will be open to all until 3 pm."
Men’s Lockers
If you have a locker and have not yet paid the fee to the Men’s Golf
Association please do so by August 15th if you want to keep your locker.
At that time locks will be removed from unclaimed lockers and the lockers
will be made available to others who want them. See Karl Bachof or Kasey
Kiplinger to pay your fee or to get a locker.
Play Golf With The Course Superintendent
The Greens Committee is starting a new program to have members play golf
with Superintendent Joe Burke. There will be a sign-up sheet in the
clubhouse for this. Joe has indicated that Thursdays at 4 pm is a good
time for him to play, but other times can be arranged. Sign-up to golf
nine holes with Joe and learn about what he is doing on the course.

Just a reminder that the newsletter is now available on the Indianola
Country Club website at
www.IndianolaCountryClub.com. If you would like get the newsletters
from the site rather than receive a paper copy please fill out the form
included with this newsletter. Also if you would like your name or phone
number removed from the website you can do that on the form as well.
Dress Code
With the hot weather of late, some people have forgotten that our dress
code prohibits tank tops and muscle shirts. Please make sure that you and
your guests are dressed appropriately.
Practice Shots
Some of you are in the habit of warming up by hitting practice shots from
around #1 blue tee across #4 fairway into the woods. With the development
going on east of # 4, this practice is now prohibited. Please use the
practice net to warm up.
Membership Changes
Welcome new members Travis and Erika Johnson. We now have 283 golf and 9
social memberships.
