Tournament Results

Congratulations to the winners of the recent tournaments. In the Fourth of July Tournament the team of Matt Jones, Nancy Stephens, and Carol Polson shot 61 to edge John O’Hair, Larry Kubli and Murphy Waggoner by one shot. In the Men's Club Championship the finish was as close as we have had in many years. Playing in the last group, Mike Lathrop, Kyle Matzen and Brad Bunting were tied and Gene Capps was one stroke out as they played the final hole of the "championship nine". Lathrop and Bunting failed to make par while Capps made birdie to tie Matzen who made a tough up and down to save par and force a playoff at +4 for the tournament. In the sudden death playoff on hole #18, Matzen won by making a routine par when Capps failed to get up and down from just right of the green. Gene Capps was the Senior Champion shooting 71-70-141 (1 under par) for 36 holes. In the Supper Senior Division, Keith Monson defeated Jeff Raymond in a sudden death playoff after they finished tied at 75-76-151. In the Women's Club Championship, Rita Bunting was the champion shooting a 73. Nancy Stephens was the Women's Senior Champion shooting an 83. Cont. Upcoming Events

The Indianola vs Panorama Ryder Cup event will be on Saturday August 27th. We will try to keep the "Bama" Trophy in Indianola. The course is not closed for this event, but the first tee will be used for the event from 8:00 - 9:00 am and from 1:30 - 2:30 pm.

Also there are Couples 2-Balls on Saturday August 6th, 13th and 27th. Note that the 2-Ball on the 27th starts 30 minutes earlier at 5:30 as the sun is starting to set sooner. Come on out and join the fun.

Looking ahead, the biggest tournament of the year is the Labor Day Tournament. Make sure you turn in all your scores so you have a legitimate handicap and will be eligible to play. Mark it down on your schedule and plan to play.

Foursomes vs Twosomes

According to the etiquette of golf, foursomes have the right of way on the golf course. If you are in a twosome, please try to pair up with another twosome or a single. It can be frustrating for a foursome playing at a regular 4 hours for 18 hole pace have twosome after twosome come up behind them and expect to play through as often happens on our course. If as a twosome, you come up behind a foursome you should not expect to be let through. Check to see who is behind you. You may be able to pair up and play at the foursomes pace. On the other hand, if you are in a foursome and there are open holes ahead of you when a lone twosome does come up be hind you, it is common courtesy to look for a convenient time to allow them to play through. As always, common sense should prevail.

IHS Boys Golf

The Indianola High School boys golf team is playing and practicing on the course again this fall. Most of the players on the team are members. They will be teeing off at 7:00 am for qualifying rounds on Friday August 12 and Monday-Wednesday August 15-17. There will be about 4 groups of golfers. For matches later this fall they will use one of the nines and typically have the tee from about 3:15 - 3:45pm. The other nine is always available for play.

Members and the Rules

As a member run club it is every members responsibility to know, obey, and help enforce the rules. For example we should all know the Men's and Women's Day rules and the times juniors are allowed so we play at appropriate times. We are also responsible for making sure that any guests we bring out to play pay the guest fees. Typical rules violations are juniors playing before 11:00 am on weekends and persons under 16 years of age driving carts. All members should politely remind others they may observe who have forgotten the rules. If you need to review the club rules, they are in the member handbook section of the calendar or on the country club website at www.indianolacountryclub.com/policies.html. Thanks for your help.

Reminders:

All Country Club Bucks will expire at the end of the year. Please make sure to use yours on or before December 31, 2005.

Handicaps - If you have signed up for a GHIN handicap, please turn in all of your scores, both good and bad, to ensure that you have a legitimate handicap. Current GHIN handicaps are required for some of the tournaments. The golf committee is considering requiring a minimum number of scores in 2005 for the Labor Day Tournament.

One More "Last Chance" for Memorial Bricks - With construction nearing completion on the Restroom/Shelter on the west nine, time is running out to get your "memorial brick" to help with funding the construction. Information on how to get your brick for only $100 is in the clubhouse.

Juniors on Weekends - Remember that on weekends, Juniors 17 & under can't tee off before 11:00am. This is true even when playing with an adult. The only exceptions to this are for high school girls and boys varsity golfers approved by the coach in their respective seasons. See the calendar for details.
