Annual Meeting News

The Annual Country Club Business Meeting was held on Sunday January 18th at 2:00pm.
Election Results: The winners of the Country Club elections were announced at the meeting:
Vice President: Dick Mathews
Board of Directors: Ken Birkenholtz, Paul Breuklander, Joe Blake Jr.
Board of Trustees: Ron Hood

Thanks to all those who were willing to have their names on the ballot and be of service to the club.
Back-nine report: It was reported that the back nine project is coming in within budget. There is still some equipment to buy and likely some reseeding/overseeding to be done this spring but the new nine is looking good. Superintendent Joe Burke reported that the grass on the tees and fairways is very good and that the greens also got a good start last fall. With good spring weather he is hoping to have the new nine open for the Memorial Day Tournament.
Dues news: The other major announcement at the meeting was that the Board of Directors has approved a dues increase for all golf memberships of $20 per month starting April 1st to cover increased costs associated with the addition of the new nine. In May we will begin making principle and interest payments on our loan after making only interest payments during the construction phase of the project. Also, there will be increased labor and material costs for maintaining 18 holes instead of nine holes. It is hoped that dues will now remain relatively stable for a time with future revenue needs met primarily by increases in the number of members. Of course inflationary increases will from time to time be needed.

With the increase, dues as of April 1, 2004 will be:

Family $120/mo. (Heritage Family $100/mo.)
Single $110/mo. (Heritage Single $90/mo.)
Single (under30) $105/mo.
Social $20/mo.

New Nine Half-Way House
As was mentioned in the last newsletter, we are seeking member investor commitments to provide funds for a small half-way house with a bathroom and snack shack on the new nine. We still need additional commitments to avoid additional commercial borrowing. Remember that members who loan the club $5,000 for up to 10 years receive a $20 per month reduction in dues. If you would be willing to make a member investor commitment for this purpose, contact Ken Birkenholtz (961-2693) or Werner Kolln (961-4791).

Manager Search
The search for a new club manager is going well. We are looking for someone with a golf background to both manage clubhouse operations and work with the golf committee to run tournaments etc. We have a number of well qualified applicants and initial interviews are in the planning stages. We hope to have the new person on board by March 1st to help plan for the upcoming season.

Assistant Superintendent Named
With the planned opening of the new nine, Todd Beschen, one of our long time greens maintenance workers has been elevated to the position of Assistant Superintendent. Todd will help Joe to supervise the crews working on the 2 nines.

Sunday Brunch
Sunday brunch this month is on Sunday February 8th from 9:30-11:30 am. If you haven’t been to one of the brunches recently you are missing out. The brunch includes the made to order omelet bar, a selection of fruit, juices, and pastries, as well as additional main dish selections. Come on out and give it a try. Guests are welcome. This is by reservation only, so please call the clubhouse at 961-3303 to make your reservations.

IndianolaCountryClub.com Web Site News
Superintendent Joe Burke now has a page called “Course Superintendent Notes” on the website. Check out Joe’s latest news at www.IndianolaCountryClub.com/supt.notes.html. You can also ask him questions via email on the site.
You can also view the monthly newsletter on the site. If you would rather get your newsletter on the web rather than receive a paper copy go to www.IndianolaCountryClub.com/newsletter.html and fill out the request form at the end of the newsletter. You will receive an email when the monthly newsletter is posted. If 150 members got their newsletter this way the club would save almost $1,000 per year.

Winter Golf
The course is “closed”, but you may still play the course to the temporary flags Joe has put in front of the greens. Just stay off of the greens and tees.

Membership Changes
Welcome new members Michael and Laura Beals. We now have 300 golf and 7 social memberships.
