FEBRUARY 2006 NEWSLETTER

Annual Meeting/Election Results

The Indianola Country Club Annual Business Meeting was held on Sunday January 15th at 1 PM in the clubhouse. In addition to brief reports from the various committees, the 2005 year end financial statement and a preliminary 2006 budget were presented. We had a good year in 2005 and the financial statement showed a positive operating income of just over $2,000 (about $20,000 better than budget). With the non cash expense of depreciation added back we had a significant positive cash flow during the year which allowed us to make some much needed capital investments in the club. These improvements included over $15,000 in clubhouse improvements (mostly for the new roof); $24,000 for new equipment including greens and fairway aerators, greens rollers, and a truckster; and over $20,000 for the new restroom/shelter. The preliminary 2006 budget assumes a $5/month increase in golf dues starting April 1st (this is less than inflation since there was no increase last year), a $20/year increase in the cart shed fee to $220/year, a gain of 20 members this spring, and a loss of 20 memberships next fall. This budget produces a net operating income of just over $8,000. Again, due to the non cash expense of depreciation, the actual cash flow is larger and this budget will allow us to set aside a total of $2,500/month for new equipment and clubhouse improvements and have almost an additional $20,000 in reserve. It should be emphasized that we are doing much better than the initial financial projections when we started the back nine expansion project. Those projections showed significant cash flow deficits for the first few years which were to be covered by the member loans. We will be in great shape if we can increase the membership by 20 or more this spring. We should all thank Jason and Joe for the excellent job they have done in controlling expenses while managing the clubhouse and the golf course. The 2005 financial statement and the preliminary 2006 budget can be seen on the bulletin board at the club. If anyone would like copies, let Jason know and we will get them to you. The Board intends to discuss and vote on the proposed 2006 budget and dues and cart shed increases at the February Board meeting.
The winners of elections were:

Board of Directors: Darren Heater, Kevin Halterman & Mike Lathrop (3 year terms)
Alan Andersen (1 year term)

Board of Trustees: Paul Breuklander

Thanks to the outgoing board members Susan Westra, Ken Birkenholtz, Paul Breuklander, Joe Blake and Dick Mathews for all of their hard work while they were on the Board.

Club Bucks

The Board voted at the January meeting to allow members who did not use all of their Club Bucks by the end of the year to carry them over. We would like to thank all of you who spent your club bucks at the end of the year and hope you feel like you got something of value for them. We would still like to strongly encourage members to use your club bucks in the year you win them.

Lunch Specials at the Club

The Thursday and Friday lunch specials have been extended through February.
*Thursdays - Buy 1 lunch and get the 2nd (of equal or less value) for 50% off.

2006 Calendar

Work on the 2006 Club Calendar is currently in progress. If you know any needed changes in your address or phone number let Jason know.

New Members Needed

As noted above we will be looking for about 20 new members this spring. Our best source of new members is you, the current members. The "off season special" of a reduced initiation fee of only $250 is still in effect. This offer will not last forever. Let any friends and acquaintances who play golf know about this good deal. Remember that you will get $50 in clubhouse bucks for each new member you can recruit.

Membership Changes

Welcome new members Steven & Kathy Bitzkowski and Troy Coffey (social). We have received resignations from Joanne Burke Snyder, Harry & June Lavigne and Ross Knoblock. We now have 312 golf and 12 social memberships.
