Construction Progress

With good weather, significant progress is being made on the new nine.  The creek crossings have been completed.  Seven of the nine greens have been shaped and are ready for the addition of gravel and sand.  Most of the tee complexes have been shaped and  many of the fairways are graded.  As the dirt work is being finished work will begin on the watering system and cart paths.  We are on schedule for a fall seeding.

Member Investor Program

With construction well underway we are looking for some more member investors to minimize the amount we have to borrow from the bank.  The member investor program, for those of you who may have forgotten or who are new members, has members loaning the club $5,000 for a period of 10 years in exchange for receiving a $20 per month reduction in dues.  The more members who are involved in this program the better.  If you are considering investing and would like more detailed information please contact Ken Birkenholtz.

Indianola Country Club on the WEB

Indianola Country Club now has a website, www.IndianolaCountryClub.com.  If you have access to the internet check it out.  It has pictures of both the current layout, the clubhouse, and the new holes under construction.  If you have any friends that are interested in joining, it is an excellent way for them to both get information and to “visit” the club.  The Club calendar is on the site and the monthly  newsletters will also be available there.  If you would like get the newsletters from the site rather than receive a paper copy please fill out the form included with this newsletter.  We hope we can set it up so you will be emailed when the newsletter is online. We also hope that having the Calendar online will allow us to print fewer paper calendars in the future.  A few people have mentioned that some may not want their name or phone number on the website.  If you would like yours removed you can do that on the form at the bottom of this page.  Let us know what you think of the website.  Thanks to Mike Blake and Neal Fry for their sponsorship of the site.

Golf Tournaments

July is a big month for golf tournaments starting with the Firecracker Open best shot on July 4th.  The Men’s and Women’s Club Championships are also in July.  Look for the sign-up sheets in the clubhouse. There are also Couples 2-Balls on July 19th and 26th.  Come on out and participate.  Congratulations to the winning Memorial Day team of Vickie Andersen, Roger Cooper and Dennis Hosey.

Rules Reminders

Last months newsletter had a section on rules reminders.  I would like to emphasize a few.

  • During busy times (when people are waiting and there are balls in the ball rack) please do not play as a single or a twosome.  There is usually a single or twosome around that you can join.  Ask them.  This will allow you to meet more people as well as use the golf course more efficiently.
  • Keep your cart on the path as much as possible.  When you do leave the path, use the 90 degree rule.  After hitting, go back to the path rather than drive down the rough.  When carts repeatedly drive in the same area significant damage occurs as can be seen to the left of #5 fairway.  When you do drive in the rough try not to drive where everyone else does.
  • Junior golfers can’t play on weekends before noon and must be 16 or 17 (green bag tag) to play without adult supervision on weekend afternoons.

Once again, we are a member run club and rely on members to enforce the rules.  If you observe someone who has forgotten a rule, please remind them politely.

Membership Changes

We have received a resignation from Scott Bachof.  Welcome new members William A. Thomas,  Ryan & Rochelle Stout, Troy & Dianna Lust,  Gary & Vicki Bonnett,  Anthony & Angie Asmus ,  Dan & Laura Manning,  Jeff & Lynne Jensen,  Derek & Jennifer Overton and Ryan & Jennifer St. John.  Please introduce yourself to these new members when you see a new face at the club.  We now have 282 golf and 9 social memberships.

Presidents Message

I would like to thank the golf committee and others who are running the club tournaments.  This takes significant time and your work is appreciated.  Members; If you would be willing to help with a tournament contact the golf committee.  Help is always needed and appreciated.  I have changes the format of this newsletter slightly.  Let me know if you like it.

See you at the club,

WERNER
