Upcoming Golf Events The 4th of July Firecracker Open will be played using a "pro-am" net best ball format this year. Four person A,B,C,D player teams will be picked by the golf committee. Each person plays their own ball with the 2 best net scores counting on each hole. A similar format was used several times on Memorial Day before we expanded to 18 holes and all players were able to contribute using their handicap strokes. Play will be in foursomes. The Men's Club Championship will be played on Saturday and Sunday July 15th & 16th. This will be a two day event with a regular, senior and super senior division. The tournament will be flighted at the completion of 36 holes with the low 16 and ties in the regular division playing an additional 9 holes in the Championship Flight. This will be a tee time event beginning at 7:30 a.m. Super Seniors will play from the Gold Tees. The Regular Division and Senior Division will play from the White Tees. The final nine in the Championship Flight will play from the Black Tees on the West Nine. Players are allowed to choose their own foursomes for day one. The Women's Club Championship is scheduled for Sunday July 23rd. This will be a one day event with a regular division along with a senior division. The tournament will be flighted at the conclusion of 18 holes. Tee times will begin at 8:00 a.m. Players are allowed to choose their own foursomes. The second Family Golf Evening of the year is at 4:30 pm on Sunday July 30th. These events are for families with children to come out and enjoy some golf activities. Food will be available for purchase from the outdoor grill. Come on out and join the fun. There are three Saturday 2-Ball events in July with a 6:00 PM start on Saturday July 8th, 22nd, and 29th. Come on out and join the fun. Since we now have 18 holes, the nine not being used by 2-Ball is open for others to play. Tournament Results Congratualtions to the recent tournament winners. Sky Caddie Anyone? At the June board meeting, the issue of getting the golf course set up for a GPS range finder system was presented. Recently, golf’s governing bodies approved the use of range finders during tournament play. The most often stated reason for this approval was to speed up play, but there are other advantages as well. With this approval, more courses will be going to some type of range finder system. Several systems were discussed, with Sky Caddie appearing to be the leading candidate. Sky Caddie is a hand held machine about the size of a PDA or cell phone that, once a course has been entered, either manually or by downloading a course from the Sky Golf database, gives you GPS based yardage readouts to specifically mapped points on the course. The Sky Caddie can be used even if the course is not set up and entered in the Sky Golf database by manually entering target data. Course set-up priority depends on the number of members who commit to purchase a Sky Caddie. Retail cost for the Sky Caddie is $349, and there are subscription plans available if you wish to be able to use your Sky Caddie with the downloaded data for other Sky Courses. If you are interested in owning a Sky Caddie, please let Jason know so he has an idea if we could sell 10 (or more) of these. He will use this info in getting our course set up with a higher priority. The more people who buy, the faster we will be able to become a Sky Course. If you have questions, visit http://www.skygolfgps.com/ or contact Mike Lathrop. Reminders: Sign-in and Pair up - All members and guests should sign in before teeing off. Also, if you are a single or twosome, pair up and form a threesome or foursome during busy times. NonGolfers on the course - The primary use of the course is golf. Members may use the course and cart paths for walking and jogging ONLY when golfers are not present. Ladies Day Golf - For those of you who play on Wednesday afternoon or evening who are not in Women's League, you need to remember that the league matches are played on both nines in the east / west configuration. Plan your play accordingly. Membership Changes We have received resignations from Jamen & Anne Hull, Donna Furnal, Bill & Carole Dyslin, and Karl & Pam Bachof. Welcome new members Donald "Bruce" & Glenda Criswell, Dennis & Deborah Ervin, Chris & Dawn Goodale, Tom & Janet Palme, and Dan & Ellen Defenbaugh. We now have 325 golf and 11 social memberships.
