March 2004 Newsletter

New Manager Hired
Jason Marvelli has been hired as Director of Golf and Clubhouse Manager. He is already hard at work getting ready for the coming golf season. Jason will manage all clubhouse operations as well as work with the golf committee on tournaments and other golf activities. I know that Jason would like to get to know all of the members, so be sure to introduce yourself when you see him at the club. A note from Jason is below:

Dear Members,

I wanted to take this opportunity to introduce myself and let you all know how excited I am to be taking on the role of Director of Golf/General Manager at Indianola Country Club.
I have spent the last eight years as a golf professional at Waveland Golf Course in Des Moines, being involved in every aspect of the golf business. Since becoming a PGA Member in 2001, I have been looking forward to the opportunity to utilize my skills at a facility such as yours. This is an exciting time for Indianola Country Club with the hiring of a PGA Member and the opening of the new nine holes. I have a vision of what I would like to see this club become and look forward to working with all of you to take this club to the next level.
On a personal note, I have ties to this community as I spent the first four years of my life in Indianola before moving to Newton. Also, in 1998 I married Stephanie Sheil who was born and raised in Indianola and whose parents still reside in town. Stephanie and I have two children, Jake (4) and Anna (2).
I am looking forward to a great year. I welcome the opportunity to meet all of you and discuss any ideas you may have for the upcoming season.

Friday Dinner Special
Jason and the Clubhouse staff would like to invite you all to a Special Friday Dinner on March 5th from 6:00pm-8:00pm. The Special Menu (to be served buffet style) includes: Choice of Ribeye or Cod, Green Bean Almondine, Red Garlic Potatoes, Green Salad, and Rolls. Cost is $14 per person. Reservations are required by Wednesday March 3rd for the special to assure adequate food and staffing. The regular sandwich menu items will also be available. If the response is favorable, Friday dinners could be available on a regular basis. Call 961-3303 to make your reservation today.

Spring Dance
A Spring Dance is being planned for Saturday April 17th. Mark the date on your calendar and look for details in the April Newsletter.

Ladies Association
With the large number of members who have joined in the past few years, the Ladies Association would like to make sure that everyone is aware of the organizations activities. Check out the information included with this newsletter.

Yearly Cart Seats
Since there is a waiting list for the cart sheds, we would like to remind everyone that you can purchase a yearly rental cart seat. The cost is $500 for an individual or $750 per couple. Let Jason know if you plan to do this so we can order more rental carts if needed.

Dues Reminder
If you have not been thinking about golf dues in this cold winter weather, remember that if January dues are not paid by March 1st a $15 late fee is added.

We now have 26 members getting the Newsletter via the website. To join them fill out the request form at the bottom of this newsletter. You will receive an email when the monthly newsletter is posted.

Course Opening
The course typically opens in the second or third week of March depending on the weather. The clubhouse will be open normal winter hours until the course opens. At that time the clubhouse may be open additional hours depending on the weather.

Membership Changes
Welcome new members Kyle & Kelli Curtis and Scott Hampton & Tonya Hedeen. Gerald Miller has dropped his golf membership but remains as a social member. We now have 301 golf and 8 social memberships.
