May 2005 Newsletter

Membership Drive Successful

The spring membership drive has been very successful. We have added 29 new memberships this spring and the membership total is now 310. Thanks to all of you who helped to recruit new members. Our current membership limit is 325 so there are only 15 spots left before we have a waiting list. Once we reach 325 the board will evaluate the situation to see if the limit should be increased. Our half-off initiation fee special ends on May 1st. We will continue to give members who recruit a new member $50 in club bucks during the month of May. The drawing for the one month of free dues for one of the new member recruiters will occur in June.

Restroom/Shelter to be Built

The Board has voted to go ahead with the construction of the restroom/shelter on the "west nine". It will be located just north of #6 tee. The 2004 Spring Fling raised about $1000 for this project and over $8,000 has been raised from the sale of Memorial Bricks to be used in a walkway/patio by the structure. Additional funds are still needed. If you have not yet purchased your brick, now is the time. The cost is $100 per brick. Forms for this purpose and sample bricks are available in the clubhouse.

May Tournaments

The Mothers Day Tournament is on Sunday May 8th. The Mother/Son or Mother/Daughter teams will play a modified alternate shot format. The nine hole division (no entry fee or prizes) will start at 8:00 AM with the 18 hole division starting at around 10:30 AM. Please sign up by Friday May 6th.
The Memorial Day Tournament will have a 9:00 AM shotgun start on Monday May 30th. This is a three person best shot tournament with and A, B, and C player. Teams are picked by the tournament committee. Sign-up by Friday May 27th. A GHIN Handicap is required for participation.

Women's Golf Association News

The last Stagette of the season is on Wednesday May 18th, don't miss it. Women's Golf League will start on Wednesday June 1st. Call Jennifer St. John for more information. You should have your Association dues and League fee paid by May 24th to participate. Looking ahead, the Ladies Invitational is on Saturday June 11th. This 2-gal best shot is open to both members and nonmembers so sign up early. The entry fee is $40/player.

Junior Golf Program

Junior golf will start on June 14th . The other dates are June 21st & 28th and July 12th & 19th. Advanced sign-up by May 31st is required so that the juniors can be divided into approximately equal size groups by age. Sessions will start at 7:30 am, 8:45 am or 10:00am. You will be called to let you know what time your junior golfers should be there. The lead instructors this year are PGA Professional Jason Marvelli and PGA Professional Shane Marvelli. Golfers between the ages of 8 and 17 are welcome to participate in Junior Golf. The cost for this professional group instruction will be only $30 for members and $80 for nonmembers. Sign-up sheets are available in the clubhouse. If you have questions call Jason Marvelli at 961-3303.

Couples 2-Ball Events

Saturday 2-Ball events begin in May with 6:00 PM starts on the 14th and 21st. Come on out and join the fun. Since we now have 18 holes, the nine not being used by 2-Ball is open for others to play. In a clarification of the junior golf rules, junior golfers can also play on this other nine with the usual weekend adult supervision requirement for those 13 and under.

Tuesday Night Golf

Tuesday Night Men's League starts on May 17th. We want to make it clear that the COURSE IS OPEN TO OTHERS on Tuesday nights, although the first and 10th tees will typically be crowded from about 4:30 PM until about 5:45 PM. With the course playing as east nine and west nine on Tuesdays, both tees are usually wide open by about 6:00PM. Also, food is typically available on the outside grill on Tuesdays during Men's League. This is open to all, not just those in league, so come on out and grab a bite and play some golf.

Indianola High School Girls Golf

The IHS Girls team is practicing and playing at the club again this spring. Many of the girls on the team are members. They have a match at 3:30 pm on May 3rd. The match originally scheduled for the 16th is cancelled. They also will be hosting Girls Regional Tournament on Monday May 23rd in the morning. The first tee should be open by noon. Please support team in their efforts, and plan your play to avoid conflicts.

By-Law Change

The board has approved a change in the by-laws to allow children who have been under a family membership to join the club with no initiation fee provided they do so within three months of when they become ineligible to remain on the family membership due to graduation etc. If you have any children graduating this spring, I hope they will take advantage of this opportunity.

A Long List of Reminders:

Sign-in and Pair up - All members and guests should sign in before teeing off. Also, if you are a single or twosome, pair up and form a threesome or foursome during busy times.

2005 Calendar/Bag Tags - The 2005 Club Calendars and Bag Tags are in. Pick yours up in the clubhouse if you have not done so already.

GHIN Handicaps - To activate your GHIN Handicap you will need to pay the $15 fee in the clubhouse. A GHIN Handicap is required for some of the club tournaments. Check the calendar for details.

East - West on Tuesdays - Remember that on Tuesdays only the East (old) nine is played as the front nine and the West (new) nine is played as the back nine. There is as East-West score card available. This is to allow Tuesday Men's League to start on both nines and clear the course for use by others.

"Crossing Over" - The option to 'cross over' from hole #1 to #11 to play just the old east nine (on days other than Tuesday) is available only if you can do so without interfering with players going from #10 to #11. You do NOT alternate in. On weekends or Thursday afternoons when play is steady you should not expect to be able to cross over. For more details please consult the "Handbook" section of the calendar.

Credit Cards - For the convenience of you and your guests, the club is now set-up to take credit cards for normal clubhouse purchases such as food, drinks, pro shop items, greens fees and cart rental.

Pro Shop - Are you thinking about getting some new golf clubs? We have the ability in our pro shop to order almost any kind of clubs or golf shoes you may want at competitive prices. Check with Jason and he will do all he can to see that you get what you need.

Yearly Cart Seats - Since there is a waiting list for the cart sheds, we would like to remind everyone that you can purchase a yearly rental cart seat. The cost is $500 for an individual or $750 per couple. This saves you the cost of buying a cart and you do not have to worry about maintenance. Let Jason know if you plan to do this so we can order more rental carts if needed.
