Rental Carts to be Sold The lease on the eight golf carts that the Club has is expiring. With the current condition of these carts the Board of Directors has decided to allow the membership an opportunity to purchase these carts. These carts are in excellent condition and have had very little use over the years. We have five 2003’s and three 2004’s which will be available. The price for the 2003’s will be $2300 + tax and the price for the 2004’s will be $2500 + tax. These prices are lower than what has been recommended by the Club Car Distributor in Des Moines. Take advantage of this opportunity to upgrade your current golf cart. Those of you who purchase a cart now and do not have storage will be allowed to store your cart at the Club over the Winter free of charge. If you are interested or have any questions please contact PGA Head Professional Jason Marvelli at 961 – 3303 or by e mail at iccpgapro@hotmail.com. These carts will be available for purchase beginning Thursday, November 1st. The carts will be available on a first come first serve basis. Nominations Wanted The Nominations Committee of Nate Ohnemus, Teri Cooper, Mike Lathrop, and Larry Kubli is still looking for persons interested in running for the Board of Directors, the Board of Trustees, and for President. I know that many of you have the talent and interest to be of service to your club. If you have an interest in running, contact the nominations committee or anyone on the board. New Years Eve Party It’s not too early to start planning for the Club New Years Eve Party. We have had great parties the last few years so mark it on your calendar to attend this year. Watch future newsletters for more details. November Golf Course Projects The second ditch on Hole #1 will be under construction beginning Monday November 5th if the weather allows. This area is going to be destroyed and new tile will be installed. It will be re-graded and the tube that currently lies in the middle will be removed. When this project starts Hole #1 will be played as a Par 3 to the nursery green. The installation of the new irrigation system on the East Nine is scheduled to begin Mid November. This project will take approximately 2 weeks depending on the weather. During this time the East Nine will be closed during the week and open on the weekends. Any information needing to be obtained during the Fall/Winter Season should be able to be obtained by signage on the first tee. *Frost Delays *Cart Rules *Irrigation Closure *Course Closures *Aeration Closures *Etc. One area that could use some attention is that of course and, in particular, greens care. We have recently seen some damage on the greens that was “player caused.” Many ball marks are not being repaired, or perhaps worse, being improperly repaired (see below). Also, chunks of turf are being taken out of greens in what looks to be a moment of anger or frustration. Joe works diligently to ensure that the golf course is in the best possible condition. Please partner with him to help leave the course as you found it. On the fairways, use the divot mix that the club provides to fill in your divots. When on the greens, properly repair your ball mark plus one other. If you are hitting practice shots in to a green, part of that practice must be to repair ALL of the ball marks you make. And don’t take your frustration out on the greens. Thanks for your help in keeping the course in the best condition possible.
Borrowed from the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America (GCSAA) Off Season at the Club As the season winds down, remember that there is plenty of activity in the clubhouse during the cold weather months. Come to the Club for lunch on Thursday, Friday, or Saturday. Enjoy the monthly Women’s Day Stagettes. Thursday nights are still Men’s Nights with a good crowd for dinner, cards and watching ball games on the big screen. Friday night is a popular time for couples to have a drink during “happy hour” before going out for the evening. Saturday afternoons are also popular for cards, having a drink and watching ball games. Come on out and support your club during the off season. Winter Membership Special We are repeating our Winter Membership Special from last year. The special is: * Reduced initiation fee of $400 (20% off until April 1, 2008) * Dues of only $20 per month thru March 31, 2008 The initiation fee is scheduled to return to the normal $500 on April 1, 2008 and the dues are the same as social dues until spring so potential members may as well join now. New members will also get to enjoy the benefits of club membership during the winter and early spring. As an incentive to recruit new members the recruiting member will receive $50 in clubhouse bucks when the new member pays the initiation. Jason has new member applications and information that you can pick up or have him send out to a prospective member. Information and a downloadable application are also available on our website at www.indianolacountryclub.com.
