October 2003 Newsletter

Back Nine Progress

Work on the back nine is nearing completion. The watering system is in, all but a few short sections of the cart path are done, and seeding has started in some areas. The last of the final grading is being done on the rest of the course and seeding should be completed by the end of the first week of October. Superintendent Joe Burke reports that this is an excellent time to be seeding and with normal fall weather we should get a good growth of grass before winter. After seeding is completed, work will continue on the path connecting the current course with the new holes. Look in next months newsletter for a planned tour of the completed new nine.

Lunch and Brunch are Back

Regular food service hours are in effect again in the clubhouse. Lunch (11am-2pm) is available Monday – Saturday and dinner is served every Thursdays for Men’s night and on Wednesdays as arranged by the Women’s Golf Association. Our new cook, Bonnie, is getting excellent reviews from the members. Come out for lunch and check out the revised menue or try one of the specials. We need to have a regular lunch crowd if we are to continue to offer this service throughout the year. The staff is looking at having regular Friday night dinners in the winter. Let them know if you would be interested in this.
Sunday Brunch will return on Sunday October 12th from 9:30-11:30 am. This is by reservation only, so please call the clubhouse at 961-3303 to make your reservations.

Golf Tournaments / Results

Congratulations to the September tournament winners. The Andersen family were the big winners on Labor Day with the team of Vickie Andersen, Donna Ketch and Debbie Brangers winning the Women’s Tournament and Alan Andersen, Wade Marchant and Tom Kline coming out on top in the Men’s Tournament. The team of John Monroe, Gene Swinford, John O’Hair and Mike Lathrop were the Championship Flight winners of the State 4-Man Best Shot.
Events this month include the Men’s Golf Association Flag Tournament on Saturday October 11th. Look for the sign-up sheet in the clubhouse. This event is open to members of the Men’s Golf Association. (You can join on the day of the event) The course also remains open for regular play. A Night Golf 2-Ball has been tentatively scheduled for Saturday night October 11th with cocktails at 6 pm and tee off at 7pm. Sign-up in advance in the clubhouse so the committee can have enough of the glow-balls available.

New Years Eve Party

It’s not too early to start planning for New Years Eve. This years dance will feature the Good Time Oldies Band. They are a popular band so plan to make your reservations early for what promises to be a GREAT PARTY!

Nominations Wanted

Country Club elections will be coming up at the end of the year. We will need to elect a Vice President, 3 members of the Board of Directors and one member of the Board of Trustees. We need the talents, abilities, and ideas of members willing to help guide our transition from a 9 to an 18 hole course as well as helping to arrange golf or social events. If you would be willing to run, please talk to any Board member about this.

Cart Shed List

The cart shed waiting list will be placed on the bulletin board in the clubhouse. We think we have it right, but please check to make sure we haven’t missed anyone who wants a cart shed space.

Membership Changes

We have received resignations from Wayne and Barb Oxenrider, Gary and Carol Shields, Chad and Kellie Mallett and Troy and Dianne Lust. Welcome new members Jack & Paula Bean, Ben Blake, Richard & Cecelia Cairney, Christian Collicott, Dick Conklin, Foster & Jean Furler, Donna Furnal, Steve Graham, Dale & Julia Hagen , Jamen & Anne Hull, Jeremy Johnson, Brian Monday, Ed & Cindy Morrison, Terry & Sheryl Newell, Ron & Sherry Percell , James & Julie Smith, and Bob & Tammy Vogel. We now have 296 golf and 8 social memberships. If you see one of these many new faces at the club, please introduce yourself and make them feel welcome.

Fall Membership Special

As you can see from the above list of new members the Special Fall Membership Drive is going very well. This special is still in effect so if you know someone who is thinking of joining you can pick up information and an application in the clubhouse or call the club and have the information sent out. The special is: new members joining this fall can begin playing immediately after approval and pay no monthly dues until April 2004. They must pay the normal $500 initiation fee this fall when joining. This may be paid over 4 months, which is the current policy. We hope that this will attract persons who were waiting to join until we were 18 holes.
