Not only does the new member get to take advantage of a two year "stimulus package" but they also get to play golf during the fall when the course is usually not too busy and always in great shape!  To help you introduce a potential new member to the club we have decided to not only run a cart special but also a guest fee special for the remainder of the 2009 golf season.  From October 1st on the guest fee will only be $17.00 regardless of the day and regardless of the number of holes being played.  We already have a cart special of $9.00 per seat regardless of the number of holes being played.  We know that our best mode of advertising is you the member.  Also beginning October 1st the sponsor of a new member will be awarded $50.00 in Club Bucks.  It is our hope that you will take advantage of this offer and invite out someone you know that could be a potential member.  As a Board we understand that the best mode of advertising is getting players onto our course.

Finally, did you know that currently there is not a waiting list to enter the cart shed?  Join now and you can immediately put your private cart in a stall.  Wait till spring................you might have quite a wait before you have your own spot!

From the Greens Committee
By the time you read this, overseeding of the fairways should be complete.  The Fall aeration of the greens will start on October 5 and proceed in order that week until completion.  If they finish #1 through# 11 on Monday, they will start with #12 on Tuesday.  Check first tee signage for details.  Tee aeration will be done soon too.

We contracted with Snyder and Associates to perform water management engineering analysis with regard to the creeks and creek crossings on the west nine.  They anticipated that their analysis would take 2 – 3 weeks.  We expect to have the results of their study soon.  While they do not perform actual work for their solution, they will recommend the best plan to solve our problem, ensuring that our dollars are spent on the most practical long-range solution.  The board will meet in special sessions as necessary to hire firm(s) for the repair or replacement of the crossings.

A personal note – many of you stop me to discuss a specific issue or the course in general.  Any input from the membership is welcome, and that feedback does affect course maintenance.  I have responded during many of these discussions over the past couple of years, that Mother Nature was dictating our maintenance schedule, and that if the weather ever straightened up, we could get back to fine tuning our links.  We have seen perhaps the best 6 - 8 consecutive weeks of golf (and golf course maintenance) weather – at least for Iowa – that I can remember.  And as promised, Joe has the golf course in absolutely fantastic shape.  The aesthetics are great, the greens even better and general “playability” is as good as I have seen it in my tenure as a member.  Many of you have told me you share this view.  Please share your positive comments with Joe and his staff when you have the chance.  It may make those days with their feet in wet boots seem a little more tolerable.
Fill in your divots, repair your ball marks, and enjoy Fall golf.

Mike Lathrop,
Greens Committee Chair

Fall Trial Memberships
The Fall Trial Membership is off to a slow start with 5 trial memberships.  The trial membership includes golf thru the end of the 2009 golf season and a reduce rental cart rate (pay the 9 hole rate for an 18 hole cart.)  The cost of a trial membership for both single and family is only $80.  Trial members who decide to join by December 1st will receive a ‘stimulus package” that includes reduced dues for 2 years similar to the current new member special.  Details are on the website at http://www.indianolacountryclub.com/prospectivemembers.html. If you know of anyone who is a potential member, let them know about this low cost opportunity to give the club a try.  Just let Jason know their name and address or email, and he will send them the information.

Membership Changes
We have received resignations from Alan & Melinda Huisinga, Gabe & Kris Capps, Russ & Teri Stokes and Dave & Judy Hutton.  Welcome new trial golf members Leo Sterk, Maxine Blazek, and Mike & Amanda Lindeberg. We now have 318 golf, five trial golf and 19 social memberships. We had 329 golf and 15 social memberships at this time last year and 330 golf memberships 2 years ago.
