Clubhouse Manager Change

As many of you may know, Bob Crouse and the Club have mutually agreed to sever ties. Bob is no longer the Clubhouse Manager. We thank Bob for the good things he did for the club during his tenure and wish him well. Nick Wagner, who has been bartending at the club for several years and graduated from Simpson with a degree in management last spring, has agreed to take over administration of the clubhouse on an interim basis. Tami Vogel will serve as assistant. The Board is discussing the type of person we need to hire as a permanent replacement. We hope that you will be patient with Nick and the staff during this difficult interim period. We intend to maintain regular service as much as possible during this period.

Golf Tournaments / Results

Congratulations to the August tournament winners. John and Kathy Monroe won the Husband & Wife Club Championship beating the defending champions Jeff and Linda Raymond in a sudden death playoff after they tied with 74’s. The Sole Survivor champions were John O’Hair for the men and Teri Cooper for the women.
Tournaments this month include the Labor Day Tournament held on Sunday August 31st and Monday September 1st. A hog roast (6 pm) and the Calcutta Auction (7 pm) will be held on Saturday August 30th. A current handicap is needed for this tournament so be sure to post all your scores. The State 4-Man Best Shot is on Sunday September 7th with a morning or afternoon shotgun start. Sign-up early as space is limited. The Ryder Cup Tournament is on Saturday September 27th. There are men’s women’s and mixed divisions. Sign up for this flighted tournament for members only in the clubhouse.

Family Golf Evening

By all accounts the Family Golf Evening on August 10th was a success. Many of those who attended remarked that it was a good event. We plan to have more of these in the future. If you are interested in hosting one in the future let a board member know. Thanks to the Crains, Saylers and Staudachers for getting this event started. Special thanks to Crain Chiropractic for donating the Blizzards for the event.

Back Nine Progress

Work on the back nine continues on schedule for a mid September seeding. The gravel and sand have been added to all the greens and the watering system is just about completed. Work has started on the cart paths. If all goes as planned we should be able to tour the nine in October with the grass growing in.

Thanks from the Indianola Community Foundation

The Board received the following note of thanks from Stan Taylor, President of the Indianola Community foundation: On behalf of the Indianola Community Foundation, I would like to thank the Indianola Country Club for its support and the individual members who donated the use of their golf carts for another successful golf tournament this past June 30th. Special thanks for Jack Mayer and his exceptional effort to organize the golf carts and getting them back into the correct sheds. Also we greatly appreciate the support of Peoples Savings Bank has given us this year and in the past. We look forward to working with you next year.

Patio Ceiling Fans

Thanks to the Men’s Golf Association for the purchase of the new ceiling fans outside. Special thanks to “Bama” and his able apprentice Kasey Kiplinger for the excellent installation job. This new addition is making sitting outside under the deck a favorite place to be.

Cart Shed List

The cart shed waiting list will be placed on the bulletin board in the clubhouse. We think we have it right, but please check to make sure we haven’t missed anyone who wants a cart shed space.

High School and College Golf

The Indianola High School boy’s will be practicing and playing several meets this fall. Simpson College will host one qualifier. Check your calendar. They will usually have the first tee for about 20-30 minutes so plan accordingly. The course is not closed.

Membership Changes

We have received a resignation from Larry and Wanda Johnson. Pat Redding has changed his membership status from social to golf. We now have 283 golf and 8 social memberships.

Fall Membership Special

The Board has approved a Special Fall Membership Drive. New members joining this Fall can begin playing immediately after approval and pay no monthly dues until April 2004. They must pay the normal $500 initiation fee this fall when joining. This may be paid over 4 months, which is the current policy. We hope that this will attract persons who were waiting to join until we were 18 holes. Advantages to joining now are getting to play for “free” this fall, being able to get on the cart shed list, being ready to play when the course opens next spring, being a club member for social activities like New Years Eve, and avoiding a potential initiation fee increase. A benefit to both the members and the club is that next years dues increase can be minimized if we have a significant number of new members join now so the Board has a better number for planning the budget. If you know someone that may join, let us know the name and address so we can send them information.
