Upcoming Tournaments
The Labor Day Tournament will be held on Sunday and Monday September 5th and 6th. Now that we have 18 holes this 3 person Best Shot Tournament will be 18 holes each day for both men and women. All teams will tee off at 9:00 AM each day. Teams will be selected by the golf committees. The sign-up deadline is 6:00 PM on Thursday September 2nd.
The Calcutta Auction will be at 7:00 PM on Saturday September 4th. Come early for Happy Hour with munchies from 6:00 to 7:00 PM.
The State 4-Man Best Shot is on Sunday September 26th. There will be one morning shotgun start at 10:00 AM. Space is limited so sign-up your team early.
Looking ahead, the Club Ryder Cup Tournament is on Sunday October 3rd. This 27 hole tournament for men's, women's or mixed teams features 9 holes of best shot, nine holes of best ball and 9 holes of alternate shot. You can pick your own team for this flighted tournament. Tee times will be used starting at 8:00 AM.

Year End 2 Ball
Don't miss the final 2-Ball of the year on Saturday September 11th hosted by the Hoovers and the Burchetts. This is traditionally a big FUN event. With the sun setting earlier in September, the start time has been moved up to 4:00 PM. Plans for this year include the golf with FABULOUS PRIZES (who knows what surprises they will have) followed by a simple dinner and Karaoke by the Croats. The cost is only $10 per couple.

September Brunch
There will be a brunch from 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM on Sunday September 12th for a class reunion that will also be open to club members and their guests. I know that those of you who like the brunches have missed them this summer. A good turnout for this brunch would be a signal to the club that we should start having regular bunches again. Call 961-3303 for reservations.

Calendar Change
The Sports Page/IHS Booster Club Fundraiser scheduled for Sunday September 19th has been moved to Deer Run. The course will be open for regular play that day.

High School Golf
The Indianola High School golf team will be playing and practicing at the club again this fall. Many of the players are members. They have three home Varsity/JV meets in late August and three Freshman/Sophomore meets in September. Each meet will only be 6 foursomes which will tie up the 1st tee of one of the nines from about 3:15 PM - 4:00 PM. Check the club activities schedule for the dates and times.

"Build a House" Campaign Update
The sale of memorial bricks for the "Build a House" Campaign is going well with over $6,000 received so far. Bricks are available for $100. The Board hopes to make a decision on building the facility this fall at the September meeting so if you are planning to get a brick please do so soon. The Board needs to know how much money will be available as they look at the financing of this facility.

Reminder: Sign-in and Pair up - All members and guests should sign in before teeing off. This is particularly important now that the new west nine is open. Also, if you are a single or twosome, pair up and form a threesome or foursome during busy times. This will help everyone get teed off in a timely manner.

Reminder: Close Cart Shed Doors - Please keep the cart shed doors closed. This will help keep out birds and animals as well as enhance security during events when the upstairs is rented out.

Membership Changes
Welcome new member Louis Ferin. We have received resignations from Bob & Abbie Hade and J. Albert & Bev Calaway. We now have 308 golf and 8 social memberships.

Fall Membership Special
The Board has approved a Fall Membership Special similar to the one we had last year. Members joining this fall will pay the $500 initiation fee this fall and pay no monthly dues until April 2005. The initiation fee may be paid over 4 months, which is the current policy. They must remain members and pay dues for at least 1 year (until April 2006). Under this special they can start playing this fall on September 15th if their membership application is approved by the Board at the September 14th meeting. Applications will be reviewed weekly after that. We hope that this will attract persons who were waiting to join until we were 18 holes and would normally not join until next spring. Advantages to joining now are getting to play for “free” this fall, being able to get on the cart shed list, being ready to play when the course opens next spring, and being a club member for social activities like New Years Eve. A benefit to both the new members and the club is so the Board can do a better job planning next year's budget since they will have a more accurate count of the number of members the club will have next spring. The more members we have, the less likely we will need a dues increase next year. If you know someone that may join, let us know the name and address so we can send them information.
